This is the camera we have been using for the last 5 years! It's just a simple point and shoot, 3x optical zoom, 4 megapixel, Costco special. It has served us well and considering it's age I'm still very happy with the quality of pictures it captures. Now that we have an active child we are taking more "in motion pictures" and the shutter lag is a problem. We have been shopping around for a new camera and thought we would ask all of you what you have had success with. I'm hoping a lot of you take pictures of activities like wakeboarding, and sports where shutter speed is key. Please leave your comments on what you've used that was good and what you've used that was bad. Durability is also important as we tend to drop this camera frequntly and so far it hasn't broken.

I bought a Canon A560 and liked it so much that I turned around and bought Clare a Canon A590. It has a Kid/Pet feature so that you can capture them in motion. I haven't had as many out of focus pictures with Ashton since.
We have a waterproof, drop-proof olympus sylus 770sw. its about 2 years old, but we have taken it with us everywhere (in the ocean, pool, rivers...)and i have dropped it several times. (i think you can drop it from 7 feet high) and we love it. it has a fast shutter option so pictures of mojo dont look like she's a big blob of fur!
Just make suree whatever you buy doesn't have plastic lenses. If you leave it your car on a warm Texas day wou can warp the lenses. Canon and Fuji have alot of models that do and if you ask the dumb person at Walmart they won;t know and 90% of the time it will NOT be labeled on the outside of the box.

the new model for that Olympus is the 790 and it is sock proof (you can drop it) Bella can eve slobber on it because it's water proof.
